Two COVID-19 positive patients including one from Srinagar and another from Ananatnag died on Wednesday, taking the death toll in J&K to 26.
A 55-year-old COVID-19 positive man of Fateh Kadal, Srinagar died at Chest Disease Hospital.
He was shifted to the CD hospital from SMHS as operated case of exploratory laparotomy with appendicectomy after testing positive for coronavirus.
Nodal Officer for COVID-19 measures, GMC Srinagar, Dr M Salim Khan said the patient was kept intubated in Surgical Intensive Care Unit at SMHS, extubated, kept on NIV and then shifted to CD Hospital for treatment.
“At CD Hospital, the patient was improving and hemodynamically stable. The patient was maintaining saturation without oxygen,” he said.
However, on Wednesday afternoon he had a sudden cardiac arrest.
“The patient was immediately intubated, coupled to ventilator and resuscitated. The patient had another cardiac arrest following which he died,” Khan said.
Another COVID-19 death was reported from south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
Principal GMC Anantnag, Dr Showkat Jeelani said that a 70-year-old man from Sarnal Anantnag died Tuesday evening.
“His sample was taken for testing and it returned positive today. His body was put in mortuary till Wednesday evening,” he said
With two fresh deaths, the death toll due to coronavirus in J&K has soared to 26 including 23 from Kashmir division.
Srinagar has seven deaths followed by Anantnag with five, Baramulla and Kulgam with four each, Budgam and Jammu two each, and Bandipora and Udhampur one each.
