After spending more than four years in jail, famous south Kashmir's cleric Sarjan Barkati was released on Wednesday, the family said.
A family member told Rising Kashmir that Barkati has been released from police station Hurpora Shopian on Wednesday evening.
"He reached home safely and now people are meeting him," the family member said.
A police officer at Shopian also confirmed Barakati's release.
Soon after the news of Barkati's release, scores of the people rushed to his residence to meet him.
Barkati--was famous for his peculiar style of sloganeering and a crowd puller of 2016 unrest in South Kashmir districts.
He was arrested by Police on 1st October 2016 at Wanpoh Anantnag. For over four three years, his family has been fighting for his release.
Barakati was booked in multiple FIRs and was booked under Public Safety Act (PSA) also.
