A policeman was killed and another injured in a militant attack at forces' party in south Kashmir's Pulwama district on Thursday.
A police officer said militants opened fire at a forces' party comprising police and paramilitary CRPF personnel near Pirchoo bridge in Pulwama district in the afternoon.
In the attack, one policeman was killed and another injured, he said.
The deceased cop was identified as Head Constable Anuj Singh while the wounded cop was identified as Mohammad Ibrahim, both belonging to 10th battalion of India Reserve Police.
An official said they were part of a forces' Nakkah deployment to ensure law and order situation amid COVID -19 pandemic.
Militants managed to escape from the scene after carrying out the attack, he said.
Following the attack, large contingents of forces cordoned off the area and launched a hunt to nab the attackers.
However, no contact was established by forces with the militants.
Thursday's attack occurred a day after two BSF men were killed in a militant attack in Pandach area in outskirts of Srinagar.
It was fourth attack on forces this month in Kashmir and fifth such incident since April 18.
Earlier on May 16, a policeman was killed in a militant attack at Frisal area of Kulgam district.
On May 04, three CRPF men were killed in a brief shootout at Wangam area of Handwara in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district. A specially-abled boy also had lost his life in the "crossfire."
On April 18, three CRPF personnel were killed and two others were wounded in a militant attack in Sopore town of north Kashmir's Baramulla district.
