NIA conducts multiple raids in Kashmir

Incriminating documents, electronic devices seized, investigation on: NIA

The National Investigative Agency (NIA) on Wednesday conducted multiple raids in Kashmir including the office of a local newspaper in Srinagar.
As per NIA official, that agency conducted searches at 10 locations in Srinagar and Bandipora and one location in Bangalore in connection with a case pertaining to NGOs and Trusts raising funds in India and abroad in the name of charitable activities.
“Then the same funds were used for carrying out ‘secessionist’ and ‘separatist’ activities in J&K,” it said.
As per NIA, this case was registered by NIA on 8/10/2020 u/s 120B, 124 A IPC and sections 17, 18, 22A, 22C, 38, 39, and 40 UA (P)A, 1967.
“Acting on receipt of credible information that certain NGOs and Trusts are collecting funds domestically and abroad through so-called donations and business contributions etc. and are then utilizing these funds for secessionist and militant activities in JK,” it said.
The official said amid tight security the NIA teams conducted raids at the residence and office of Human rights activist Khurram Parvez (co-ordinator of J&K Coalition of Civil Society) at Sonwar.
His associates including Parvez Ahmad Bukhari, Parvez Ahmad Matta and Bengaluru-based associate Swati Sheshadri, Parveena Ahanger, Chairperson of Association of Parents of Disappeared Persons ( APDPK) and offices of NGO Athrout and Greater Kashmir (GK)Trust.
The official said the NIA teams also visited the offices of two NGOs in Hyderpora and Nawakadal, the house of a journalist, a houseboat owner and a Hurriyat activist.“Several incriminating documents and electronic devices have been seized. Further investigation in the case is continued,” the official further said.
