Slain militant seems local, his identification being ascertained: IGP Kashmir
A militant was killed during a gunfight in Larnoo area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, Police said Saturday.
As per the Police, following the inputs of the presence of militants in the area, a joint operation was launched by the Special Operations Group (SOG) of Police and paramilitary CRPF during which a militant was killed.
“The hiding militant was provided an opportunity to surrender, but he fired indiscriminately at the joint search party which was retaliated, leading to a gunfight,” it said.
IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar in a statement issued here said that the "slain militant seems a local militant and his identification is being ascertained".
"Incriminating materials including arms and ammunition were recovered from the site of gunfight. All the recovered materials have been taken into case records for further investigation and to probe his complicity in other militant crimes,” Police said.
In this connection a case under the relevant sections of the law has been registered in Police Station Larnoo and investigation has been initiated, the statement said.
“People are requested to cooperate with Police till the area is completely sanitised and cleared of all the explosive materials,” it said.
