COVID-19: With 177 cases, JK witnesses highest one-day rise; tally 2341

10 more pregnant women, 8 Policemen among fresh cases in Kashmir

 Jammu Kashmir recorded its highest-ever single day rise on Saturday as 177 fresh cases tested positive for COVID-19 in 24 hours including 125 in Kashmir division, bringing the infection tally to 2341.
Saturday’s cases include 40 from Baramulla, followed by Srinagar with 26, Anantnag 19, Shopian 16, Ramban 14, Udhampur 13, Budgam 10, Samba seven, Kathua and Rajouri six each, Pulwama five, Kulgam four, Doda and Kupwara three each, Jammu two, and one each from Ganderbal, Bandipora and Reasi.
Of these cases, 48 tested positive at the microbiology lab of the Chest Disease (CD) Hospital, Srinagar, which tested 671 samples during the past 24 hours.
Nodal Officer for COVID-19 measures, GMC Srinagar, Dr M Salim Khan said the cases include 40 from north Kashmir’s Baramulla district including five pregnant women.
“Seven cases are from Anantnag that include five pregnant women, one from Srinagar and one case from District Police Lines Baramulla,” he said.
Forty of the 48 cases tested at the CD Hospital lab had been already in quarantine centres.
The Viral Diagnostic and Research Lab (VDRL) of SKIMS, Srinagar Saturday tested 687 samples of which 12 returned positive for coronavirus.
Medical Superintendent SKIMS, Dr Farooq Jan said the cases include six from Srinagar having travel history to Delhi, two from Kupwara having travel history to Ambala, and four from Kulgam including two women.
The coronavirus testing lab of SKIMS Medical College and Hospital (MCH) Bemina Saturday tested 500 samples of which 10 returned positive.
As per SKIMS Bemina officials, all the positive cases belong to Budgam including eight from Police Station Magam and two from Soibug.
The government said of the 1,64,581 test results available, 1,62,240 returned negative and 2341 positive which include 1405 active positive cases while 908 have recovered and been discharged including 33 persons discharged during the past 24 hours.
It said, so far, 1,65,225 persons had been put under observation including 36,538 in home quarantine, 1405 in hospital isolation, and 56 in hospital quarantine while 43,514 people are under home surveillance and 83,684 persons have completed their surveillance period.
In Kashmir, Anantnag has 314 cases, followed by Kulgam with 277, Srinagar 272, Kupwara 258, Baramulla 217, Shopian 168, Bandipora 146, Budgam 99, Pulwama 70 and Ganderbal 32.
In Jammu division, Jammu district has 130 positive cases followed by Ramban with 89, Kathua 71, Udhampur 65, Samba 41, Poonch 38, Rajouri 27, Reasi 14, Kishtwar eight and Doda five.
J&K has so far recorded 28 deaths to coronavirus of which 25 were reported from Kashmir.
