Cleric found ‘murdered’ inside Masjid

 A man hailing from Beerwah area of central Kashmir's Budgam district was found murdered inside a Masjid at Maisuma area in uptown Srinagar on Thursday.
A Police officer said Abdul Gani Dar alias Gani Gazali, 80, a resident of Russu area of Beerwah in Budgam, was found dead under mysterious circumstances at Jamiat-e-Ahli Hadith Masjid in Maisuma area of city.
He said that injury marks were found on the head of Dar, who was once top commander of militant outfit Tehreek ul Mujahideen.
Police received information about Dar's murder inside the Masjid at Maisuma in the afternoon.
Accordingly the body of the deceased was recovered and taken to hospital for conducting of medico legal formalities, Police said.
He said the crime spot was photographed while video recording of the site was carried out and a team from Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) was called for the examination of scene of crime.
"Following the scientific procedures of investigation, circumstantial evidences and samples were lifted crime scene for the purpose of investigation," the spokesman said.
Police also conducted a detailed search of the premises and the CCTV footage pertaining to the area was being examined.
Police have registered a case and investigation taken up.
"We assure the investigation will be fast tracked in a professional and impartial manner," the spokesman said.
The Jamiat-e-Ahli Hadith chief Maulana Showkat Shah was killed in a blast near the main entrance of the Masjid on April 8, 2011.
