“It was a passion to serve people in Kashmir and I am happy that I have served hundreds of patients belonging to different backgrounds,” he said.

Wani said although he faced my difficulties in his life but trust in the Almighty Allah kept him moving and excelling in the field.

While Amir Sohail Malik, who is pursuing M. Phil in Psychology and is working as his assistant in the clinic.

He believes that people are coming forward in Kashmir towards the traditional cupping therapy and they are getting now positive response from people as it is getting popular in the region.

Sharing their journey in the unique field, Malik said  before setting up their clinic at Chanapora Hamdania Colony, they got an idea from one’s of their colleague who is presently working in Saudi Arabia.

“He persuaded us and asked us to try this concept in Kashmir. Alhamdullilah, we are now getting good response from the people,” he said.

Hajama or Hijama, the therapy that uses cupping for treatment of various ailments, is gathering a lot of attention from the younger generation in Kashmir. This therapy is as old as history and as per history it was used by Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) and recommended people to practice it.

He says cupping is a method of relieving local congestion by applying a partial vacuum that is created in a cup, either by heat or by suction.

“Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) resuscitated the Hijama that had been forgotten for long. There are many Hadith on the Prophet recommending Hijama for Muslims and the entire humanity,” Malik said.

There is a well-known saying of the Prophet (PBUH): “There is a cure in three substances; a drink of honey, incision with a knife used for Hijamah (cupping), and cauterising by fire. And I forbid my Nation from cauterising by fire.”

He says that Hijama can cure many diseases from head to toe, migraine, spondylitis, acidity, constipation, piles, infertility, PCODS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome) and other gynaec disorders, joint pains, L1, L2, L3, heel pain, low back pain, slip disc, nurse compression, tail bone pain, etc.

“It is not fully revived in Kashmir but people have some concepts about it and now getting popularity among people in the valley,” he said.

Malik claimed that they have treated more than 5000 patients at their clinic and they were satisfied with our work. On an average 5-6 patients are visiting our clinic on daily basis and there is no age for doing cupping therapy, he said.

“It is the best detoxification process. It is scientifically proven that the blood that comes after giving small 0.5mm cuts on the affected side of the body is bad blood or toxic blood,” Malik said.

He said they have shoot live videos in which patients were asked about the satisfaction level and they were happy about the whole process.

“We have a chain of patients and people from far-flung areas visit of the clinic which is adjacent to Florence Hospital in Hamdania Colony, Chanapora Srinagar,” Malik said.

He says they are also getting queries on social media including Instagram “Hijama Detox” and other pages on other platforms to reach out the people.

In the past several years, their clinic has treated hundreds of patients. He says it is very cost-effective, particularly when treating back, joint, or leg pains.

“Hijama can be done in any part of the body. It relives pains due to arthritis, lower back pain, headache, migraine, muscle pain, etc,” he said adding that it provides relief from lung diseases,” he said.

Malik said that we need to revive and establish this practice of the Prophet Muhammad (Peace and blessings be upon Him) and empower people to be strong, healthy, and rise up once again.

“As Muslims, we need to re-assert ourselves as leaders in the fields of medicine and health, just as we were in the golden age of Islamic science,” he said.

Malik said the career of a professional Hijama therapist is fulfilling and benefits the practitioner in this life and the next. “It is a career that is satisfying and spiritually rewarding,” he added.
