IGP says 6 vehicles seized, militants carried 4 major attacks in past 52 days on highway
Police on Friday claimed to have arrested six persons involved in recent highway attacks.
Addressing a news conference, Inspector General of Police, Kashmir, Vijay Kumar said they arrested six militant associates involved in highway attacks during the past few months.
“Police busted a Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) module involved in a series of attacks on the forces along the highway,” he said.
Kumar said two months back Lashkar militant Saifullah came to Srinagar and Budgam areas from north Kashmir’s Handwara area and carried four highway attacks.
“On August 14, at Gulshan Nagar in which two policemen were killed and one INSAS rifle snatched and on September 21, militants attacked ROP at Nowgam Bypass,” he said.
Kumar said on September 25 militants attacked the CRPF party at Chadoora and on October 5, militants again targeted RoP of CRPF at Taingan Bypass in which two CRPF men were killed and four injured.
“For disturbing peace, militants have less role compared to the Over Ground Workers (OGWs) and people involved in modules who provide them bit-by-bit information regarding the deployment of the forces,” he said.
Kumar said in order to reach the zero level, different teams were constituted by the Police, which was guided by senior officials of the department.
“They detained around nine to 10 suspects based on the human hint and technical links. The suspects were later interrogated and through that Police carried a gunfight at Barzulla,” he said.
Kumar said the team further continued their efforts and pin-pointed six militant associates and they were arrested.
During their interrogation, they revealed their inputs regarding their activities, he said.
Kumar said six vehicles were also seized from the arrested militant associates that include three cars, a cab, and two two-wheelers.
The arrested associated identified by Police include Waseem Ahmed Ganai of Ganai Mohalla, Chatergam, Chadoora, Faisal Mushtaq Ganai of Aribagh, Nowgam, Shakir Ahmed Dar of Marvel, Kakapora, Pulwama, Suhail Shabir Ganai of Ganai Mohalla Chattergam, Chadoora, Budgam, Umar Nisar of Iqbal Colony Wanbal, Shakerpora,, Nowgam, Srinagar and Sahil Nisar of Aribagh, Nowgam.
