Two militants were killed in a gunfight with the forces in south Kashmir's Anantnag district on Tuesday.
The gunfight broke out at Waghama area of the district following an extensive cordon and search operation at around 6:30 am, a police officer said.
This was the second gunfight in the district in past two days.
He said the operation against militants was jointly launched by the Special Operations Group (SOG) of Police, paramilitary CRPF, and the Army after intelligence inputs confirmed the presence of militants in the village.
As the search operation was underway, militants opened fire at the forces, who retaliated, triggering a gunfight in which two militants were killed, the officer said.
They were given opportunity to surrender, however, they fired at the forces, he said.
The bodies of the killed militants were retrieved from the site of the gunfight and their identification and affiliation was being ascertained.
Arms and ammunition were recovered from the gunfight site.
Meanwhile, the bodies of the killed militants were taken to Handwara for last rites after conducting the medico-legal formalities including the collection of their DNA.
With the killing of two more militants, the militant death toll this year has reached 118.
